Gio Ponti Sideboard, Italy, 1950’s

Extraordinary sideboard attributed to Gio Ponti (1891-1987). Rectangular case piece of fruitwood veneer suspended upon ebonized tapered legs and base with brass hardware. Includes two fluted door cabinet compartments at left and middle with a stack of felt lined drawers at right. Attribution based on documentation by the French auction house, Tajan, who states the piece was initially executed by Gio Ponti for the residence of the Ambassador of Italy to Brussels, Belgium.
