Gio Ponti Drybar, Italy, 1950’s
Extraordinary cabinet attributed to Gio Ponti (1891-1987) Rectangular case piece of fruitwood veneer suspended upon ebonized tapered legs and base with brass hardware. Includes two vertical fluted doors flanking a drop-down secretary or bar surface over three drawers. Originally intended as a dry bar, but today is useful in a variety of storage applications. Attribution based on documentation by the French auction house, Tajan, who states the piece was initially executed by Gio Ponti for the residence of the Ambassador of Italy to Brussels, Belgium.
