Gio Ponti Sideboard, Italy, 1950’s

Extraordinary sideboard in the style of Gio Ponti (1891-1987). Rectangular case piece of fruitwood veneer suspended upon ebonized tapered legs and base with brass hardware. Includes two fluted door cabinet compartments at left and middle with a stack of felt lined drawers at right. Original attribution to famed Italian designer, Gio Ponti, based on documentation by the respected French auction house, Tajan, who states that the piece was initially executed by Gio Ponti for the residence of the Ambassador of Italy to Brussels, Belgium. More recent attributions have been made to Alfred Hendrickx and to De Coene. Matching cabinet/dry bar from the same suite is also available. Belgium
