SOLD – Rothenberg Abstract Expressionist Acrylic Landscape, USA, 1970’s

Abstract expressionist signed acrylic landscape attributed to Susan Rothenberg (1945-2020), from the collection of Mimi Kilgore, a well-connected Texan who made a significant mark on Texas visual arts and was integral to the NY art scene as muse to Willem de Kooning in the 1970’s. Rothenberg’s work, held in important private and public collections and museums across the US, was likely added to Kilgore’s collection during her years in NY with de Kooning. This period painting exhibits classic modern abstract forms and techniques consistent with Rothernberg’s early abstract work and perhaps the beginnings of her figurative work, including horse imagery. Aggressive textural brushwork is typical to Rothenberg and contrasts with the calm blue of water and sky. Signed front and back, original frame. USA, 1970’s
